How do you maintain the vibrancy of a 1/27 hair color blend on synthetic and human hair wigs?
I recently purchased a beautiful wig with a 1/27 hair color blend which is a mix of off black and strawberry honey blonde. It looks stunning but I am worried about the blonde highlights fading or turning brassy over time. For those who frequently wear blonde blended wigs what are the best sulfate free shampoos to use? Does heat styling damage the lighter 27 strands faster than the dark roots? I need expert maintenance advice.

3 days agoMaintaining a 1/27 hair color blend especially on human hair wigs requires absolute dedication to moisture. The 27 color which is the honey blonde highlight has been heavily chemically bleached at the factory to achieve that lightness. Because the hair cuticle has been stripped it is naturally much drier and more prone to breakage than the off black color 1 base. You absolutely must use a sulfate free purple shampoo once a month. The purple shampoo neutralizes any brassy or orange tones that develop when the blonde highlights are exposed to the Nigerian sun and hard water. Furthermore never use heavy oils like castor oil on blended wigs; it will weigh the hair down and make it look greasy. Use a lightweight argan oil serum instead to seal the cuticles after washing.

3 days agoTo answer your question about heat styling on a 1/27 hair color blend: Yes heat damages the lighter blonde strands significantly faster than the dark strands. If you use a flat iron or a hot comb at 450 degrees Fahrenheit you will literally fry the 27 highlights causing them to snap off and leave the wig looking thin and jagged. You must invest in a high quality thermal heat protectant spray. Spray it generously and let it dry for a minute before applying any hot tools. Additionally keep your hot tools below 350 degrees. If the wig is synthetic do not use normal shampoo at all. Wash it with fabric softener mixed in cold water to restore the softness without stripping the synthetic dye.

3 days agoI have a 1/27 body wave wig and it is my absolute favorite. The mix of dark and light frames the face beautifully. Just make sure you deep condition it every two weeks to keep the blonde parts from looking like dry straw.

3 days agoNever wash a highlighted wig with hot water! Hot water opens the hair cuticles and makes the blonde dye bleed into the black hair ruining the contrast. Always use lukewarm or cold water.
