What is the average cost to buy or rent a 15 ft storage container for a construction site in Nigeria?
We are starting a mid sized building project and we need a secure place to lock up bags of cement tools and scaffolding. A 15 ft storage container seems like the perfect size for our plot without taking up too much workspace. What is the current market price to buy a used shipping container of this exact size in Lagos? If buying is too expensive do logistics companies rent them out monthly and do they handle the crane transportation to the site?

3 days agoSourcing a 15 ft storage container in Nigeria can be slightly tricky because the global shipping standards are 20 ft and 40 ft. A true 15 ft container is usually a custom cut down version of a larger container. If you are buying a fairly used custom 15 ft container the price in Lagos will range between 600,000 and 850,000 Naira depending on the structural integrity meaning no heavy rust or holes in the roof. Renting is actually a much smarter financial decision for a mid sized project. Logistics companies and equipment leasing firms rent them out for about 40,000 to 60,000 Naira per month. However the catch is transportation. You must pay for the Hiab truck (a truck with a built in crane) to lift and transport the container to your site and return it which costs about 150,000 Naira each way.

3 days agoWhen evaluating the 15 ft storage container for your construction site security must be your primary focus. Standard container doors use simple padlock latches which site thieves can easily cut with massive bolt cutters in the middle of the night. You must hire a local welder to fabricate a heavy duty steel lock box cover over the padlock area. This prevents anyone from accessing the padlock with cutting tools. Also ensure you place the container on slightly elevated concrete blocks or thick timber planks. If you drop the metal container directly on bare soil the bottom will absorb ground moisture rust rapidly and eventually collapse under the heavy weight of the cement bags stored inside.

3 days agoI rented a 20ft container instead for my site in Lekki. It was easier to find than a 15ft one. I paid 50k monthly. It saved me millions of Naira because site workers will steal your cement and tools if you just use a wooden shed.
