How do you prevent a 16 inch kinky curly wig from tangling and losing its bounce?
I just bought a brand new 16 inch kinky curly wig made of 100 percent virgin human hair. The curls are extremely tight and voluminous which I absolutely love. However after wearing it for just three days the back of the neck area has started matting and tangling terribly. What specific curl defining creams or leave in conditioners should I use? Should I detangle it while it is wet or dry to avoid shedding the hair strands?

3 days agoDealing with a 16 inch kinky curly wig requires patience and the right products. The matting at the nape of the neck is completely normal; it happens because the hair constantly rubs against the collar of your clothes generating friction and static. To prevent this you must completely change how you detangle. NEVER brush or comb a kinky curly wig while it is dry. Doing so will rip the hair from the lace frontal causing massive shedding and turning the defined curls into a massive frizzy afro. You must only detangle the hair when it is soaking wet and saturated with a slippery conditioner. Use a wide tooth comb or a specialized detangling brush starting from the very ends of the hair and slowly working your way up to the roots.

3 days agoThe secret to maintaining the bounce of a 16 inch kinky curly wig is understanding moisture retention. Curly hair is naturally drier because the natural oils from the scalp cannot travel down the spiral hair shaft. You must create your own moisture mix. Buy a spray bottle fill it with 80 percent water 10 percent leave in conditioner (Cantu or Aussie Moist work great) and 10 percent lightweight oil like jojoba or argan. Spray this mixture generously on the hair every single morning. Use your fingers to scrunch the curls upwards to reactivate the bounce. Avoid heavy styling gels like Eco Styler because they contain alcohol which dries out the human hair and leaves white flaky residue after two days.

3 days agoI wear a kinky curly wig every day. The best advice is to take it off at night. If you sleep in it the friction against the pillow will cause irreversible matting at the back. Put it on a wig stand before bed.

3 days agoIf the nape area is already severely matted spray it with pure water mixed with fabric softener and let it sit for ten minutes. It melts the tangles away so you can comb it out without breaking the lace.
