What is the best daily maintenance routine for an 18 inches curly wig to keep it looking wet and wavy?
I love the long voluminous look so I invested in a premium 18 inches curly wig. To keep it looking fresh I usually spray it with a mixture of water and conditioner every morning. However by noon the hair dries up and becomes very frizzy and wide. How do professional hairstylists achieve that permanent wet and wavy look without making the hair feel stiff and crunchy with heavy styling gels? What serums do you recommend?

3 days agoAchieving that flawless wet and wavy look on an 18 inches curly wig without making it crunchy is an art. The mistake most people make is using products that hold the hair rather than products that hydrate the hair. When you use water and standard conditioner the water simply evaporates in the sun leaving the conditioner residue to dry up and cause frizz. The professional secret is using a curl defining mousse instead of gels or heavy creams. A good foaming mousse (like Nairobi or LottaBody) contains polymers that coat the hair strand locking in the moisture while keeping the hair extremely soft and pliable. Apply the mousse generously while the hair is damp then use a Denman brush to define the curls section by section.

3 days agoBeyond the daily mousse application the weekly maintenance of your 18 inches curly wig dictates how long it will last. Because you are applying products daily product buildup is inevitable. By the end of the week the hair will feel heavy dull and stringy. You must wash the wig with a clarifying shampoo to strip away the old mousse and serums. Follow this immediately with a deep conditioning mask. Place the wig in a plastic bag and microwave it for exactly 30 seconds to create a warm steam treatment allowing the conditioner to penetrate the cuticles. Rinse it with cold water and let it air dry completely. Never use a blow dryer on curly wigs; the forced air will blast the curl pattern apart and cause permanent frizz.

3 days agoThe Luster S Curl No Drip Curl Activator Moisturizer is a lifesaver. I spray it lightly on my curly wig and it stays looking glossy and wet for the entire day without dripping down my neck.

3 days ago18 inches is a great length but because it touches your back it will tangle faster than a bob. I always carry a small spray bottle of water in my handbag to revive the curls if I am out in the hot sun all day.

3 days agoDo not run your dry fingers through a curly wig! Every time you touch it you transfer the oils from your hands and disrupt the curl pattern which immediately causes frizz. Spray it scrunch it and leave it alone.
