How much does it cost to completely respray a fading 2001 toyota camry gold back to its factory color?
I inherited an old 2001 toyota camry gold from my uncle. The engine and transmission are perfectly fine but the exterior paint is completely baked and peeling due to years of sun exposure. I want to restore it to its original metallic gold factory finish. What is the standard price for a high quality oven baked car painting job in Lagos right now? Will changing the paint from standard gold to a slightly darker shade affect my vehicle registration papers?

The cost of a full oven baked respray in Lagos varies heavily based on the quality of the materials and the workshop. A low end roadside painter will charge about 80,000 to 120,000 Naira. However they will likely use cheap acrylic paints and dry the car in the open air allowing dust and insects to stick to the wet paint. For a proper professional oven baked paint job using high quality polyurethane clear coats (which gives that deep glass like shine) you should budget between 250,000 and 400,000 Naira. A premium paint job will not peel or fade for at least five to seven years even under the harsh Nigerian sun.

3 days agoRegarding your vehicle registration and the 2001 toyota camry gold: If you are simply painting the car a slightly different shade of metallic gold or champagne gold you do not need to change your vehicle registration papers. The police and VIO only check the primary base color. However you must ensure the panel beater does a thorough prep job before painting. If the old peeling clear coat is not sanded down completely to the base primer the new paint will simply lift and peel off within six months. Ask the painter to use high quality body filler (not cheap putty) for any dents and insist on seeing the brand of clear coat they are using. Brands like Roberlo or Sikkens offer incredible durability and UV protection.

3 days agoI just repainted my old Corolla. Do not try to save money by going to a cheap painter. They painted my car over the old paint and it started cracking like a dried riverbed in less than three months. Pay for the oven bake.

3 days agoIf the engine is good spending 300k to paint it makes total sense. It will look brand new and raise your personal profile. A clean old car commands more respect than a dirty scratched up newer model.

3 days agoMake sure they mask the windows headlights and door handles properly. Cheap painters are lazy and will spray paint mist all over your black rubber window trims making the car look very messy and unprofessional.
