What is the wholesale price for 25kg bags of rice for local brands like Mama Gold and Big Bull?
Buying a full 50kg bag is currently above my budget so I want to know the pricing for the half size. What is the current open market price for 25kg bags of rice from premium stone free local brands like Mama Gold Big Bull or Umza? Does buying two 25kg bags end up costing significantly more than just saving up to buy a single 50kg bag from distributors in Daleko market?

3 days agoThe wholesale price for 25kg bags of rice from premium local brands like Mama Gold Big Bull and Umza is highly dependent on the major market you visit. Currently in major hubs like Daleko market or Mile 12 a 25kg bag ranges between 40,000 and 48,000 Naira. Buying the 25kg bag is an incredibly smart strategy for small families on a budget. These premium brands are fully destoned and polished meaning you will not spend hours picking out gravel and the grains separate beautifully when cooked for Jollof rice just like the banned imported foreign rice. The quality remains exactly the same as the massive 50kg bags just packaged more conveniently.

3 days agoTo answer your question about the cost difference: Buying two 25kg bags of rice does usually cost slightly more than buying a single 50kg bag but the difference is marginal. A 50kg bag might cost 85,000 Naira while two 25kg bags might cost 44,000 Naira each totaling 88,000 Naira. You are essentially paying a small premium of about 3,000 Naira for the extra packaging material and convenience. However the 25kg bag is much easier to carry into your apartment transport in the trunk of a small car and store safely in a kitchen cabinet without exposing a massive 50kg open bag to weevils and moisture. Beware of heavily discounted 25kg bags; some vendors rebag cheap stony rice into fake Mama Gold sacks to deceive buyers.

3 days agoI stopped buying 50kg bags. My family of three takes months to finish it and by the end the rice starts smelling dusty and breeding insects. The 25kg bag is the perfect size to finish while the rice is still fresh.
