Does wearing a 3 strap waist trainer actually help to burn belly fat during gym workouts?

I am trying to lose my post pregnancy belly fat and my gym instructor suggested using a 3 strap waist trainer while running on the treadmill to increase sweating around my core. Does this neoprene material actually accelerate fat burning or is it just causing me to lose water weight? Are there any medical dangers to compressing my stomach with three heavy velcro straps while doing intense cardio breathing exercises?

Using a 3 strap waist trainer during workouts is highly controversial in the fitness and medical community. To be direct: The waist trainer absolutely DOES NOT burn belly fat. Fat loss cannot be targeted to one specific area by wrapping it in neoprene. When you wear a thick waist trainer during cardio it acts as an insulator trapping body heat and causing you to sweat profusely around your midsection. You are purely losing water weight. When you step on the scale after the gym you might weigh less but the moment you drink water to rehydrate the weight will return instantly. The only scientifically proven way to lose post pregnancy belly fat is through a caloric deficit diet and consistent full body strength and cardio training.

Beyond the myth of targeted fat burning wearing a tightly cinched 3 strap waist trainer during intense cardio presents genuine medical dangers. When you run on a treadmill your body needs maximum oxygen intake. Compressing your abdomen and lower ribcage restricts your diaphragm preventing your lungs from fully expanding. This can lead to shortness of breath dizziness and even fainting during a workout. Furthermore relying on a stiff waist trainer acts as an artificial crutch for your core muscles. Instead of your abdominal and lower back muscles working hard to stabilize your body the waist trainer does the work causing your natural core muscles to weaken over time. It is much safer to wear breathable gym clothes and focus on engaging your core naturally while exercising.

I bought one and used it for a month. It made me sweat like crazy and my stomach looked flat while wearing it but the moment I took it off my belly spilled right back out. It is basically just a corset for the gym.

It is actually helpful for lower back support if you are doing heavy deadlifts or squats. The compression keeps your spine aligned but you should never wear it tight enough to restrict your breathing during cardio.

Focus on your diet instead! You cannot out train a bad diet. Eat more protein cut out sugary drinks and do high intensity interval training. The belly fat will drop naturally without suffocating yourself with rubber straps.
