How durable is the atouch brand of educational tablets for toddlers under five years old?
My sister wants to buy an educational device for her 4 year old son and the atouch tablets are heavily marketed online. They come with colorful protective cases and preloaded games. However children that young are very destructive. Is the screen glass highly fragile? Does the battery actually last?

3 days agoThe Atouch brand dominates the budget kids tablet market in Nigeria because they are extremely cheap. However you must manage your expectations regarding their durability. The physical thick rubber casing that comes with the atouch tablet is actually fantastic; it absorbs massive impacts if the tablet is dropped on the floor preventing the motherboard from cracking. The major weakness is the actual glass touchscreen. The glass used is very thin and brittle. If a toddler decides to hit the screen directly with a hard plastic toy the screen will spiderweb instantly. You absolutely must spend an extra 3,000 Naira to install a very thick tempered glass screen protector over the original screen before handing it to a child.

3 days agoRegarding the battery life and internal hardware of the atouch tablets: The battery is notoriously weak. Most Atouch kids tablets have a 3000mAh battery. Because children love playing colorful games at maximum brightness with the volume blasted the battery will rarely last more than 2.5 to 3 hours from a full charge. You will find yourself constantly plugging it in. Furthermore the charging ports are somewhat fragile. Teach your child not to yank the cable out forcefully or the charging port will break off the motherboard. Despite these flaws for a price point of around 40,000 Naira it is practically a disposable learning tool. If it breaks after a year it served its purpose without destroying your bank account like an expensive iPad would.

3 days agoI bought the Atouch K89 for my 3 year old. He dropped it from the dining table onto the tiles three times the first week. The rubber casing saved it completely. It is a great cheap distraction tool.

3 days agoThe preloaded games are very educational but the tablet is slow. If you try to open three apps at the same time it will freeze. It is only good for running one simple YouTube Kids video at a time.

3 days agoMake sure you set up Google Family Link immediately. The tablet runs on standard Android so without parental controls your child could easily stumble onto inappropriate YouTube videos or download unwanted apps.
