Is the binatone brand of standing fans still as durable as they were in the early 2000s?
Growing up binatone fans were legendary for lasting over a decade without the motor burning out. I need to buy a few standing fans for my new apartment. With the influx of cheaper Chinese brands is the modern binatone fan still manufactured with pure copper coils and thick plastic blades?

3 days agoThe nostalgia associated with the binatone brand in Nigeria is immense. Growing up in the 90s and 2000s a Binatone standing fan was an absolute tank that would literally last 15 years in a Nigerian household. To answer your question honestly: The modern Binatone standing fans are still very good but they are no longer built with the massive over engineered indestructible materials of the past. To remain competitive with the flood of ultra cheap Chinese brands (like Ox and Lontor) Binatone had to optimize their manufacturing costs. The plastic body panels are slightly thinner now and the heavy cast iron bases have been replaced with lighter plastic shells filled with concrete weights.

3 days agoDespite the cost cutting the internal motor of a modern binatone standing fan remains vastly superior to generic market brands. Binatone still uses 100 percent pure copper wire for their motor coils whereas cheap competitors use copper coated aluminum wire which burns out and melts instantly under severe NEPA voltage fluctuations. A new Binatone fan will still give you a massive blast of air and run quietly for years provided you do basic maintenance. You must unscrew the cage every six months clean the dust off the blades and apply a few drops of lubricating oil to the motor shaft. If you do this a modern Binatone will comfortably serve you for five to seven years making it still a very smart purchase for your new apartment.

3 days agoI just bought two Binatone 16 inch fans for my parlor. They are much lighter than the ones my parents had but the speed of the blade is incredible. The breeze reaches every corner of the room.

3 days agoDo not buy the generic Ox fans if you want peace of mind. They are loud and vibrate so much they walk across the floor. Binatone and Panasonic are still the kings of silent cooling.

3 days agoMake sure you buy an original Binatone. The market is full of fakes spelled like "Binatome" or "Binaton". Check the carton for the official 2 year warranty seal and buy from major supermarkets like Spar or official distributors.
