What is the efficiency of the bluesun 460w half-cell bifacial solar panel under the Nigerian cloudy season?
I am upgrading my home solar setup. Bifacial panels seem like the next big technology because they absorb light from the back as well. I am looking at the bluesun 460w half-cell bifacial solar panel. Does the half cell technology actually improve performance during the cloudy rainy season in Lagos?

3 days agoThe bluesun 460w half-cell bifacial solar panel is a masterclass in modern solar engineering and is highly suited for the Nigerian climate. Bifacial technology means the panel has tempered glass on both the front and the back exposing the solar cells on both sides. While the front absorbs direct sunlight the back absorbs ambient light scattered and reflected off the roof or ground (the albedo effect). Under optimal conditions this can increase your total power generation by up to 15 to 25 percent compared to standard monofacial panels. To maximize this you MUST mount the panels on a raised rack (at least half a meter off the roof) and ideally over a light colored reflective surface. If you mount them flush against a dark corrugated roof the bifacial advantage is completely wasted.

3 days agoRegarding the cloudy rainy season in Lagos the half cell technology on the bluesun 460w half-cell bifacial solar panel is a massive game changer. Traditional panels have full sized cells wired in a single series; if a cloud casts a shadow over the top half of the panel the power output of the entire panel drops to almost zero. Half cell panels are internally split into two independent halves. If a shadow or heavy cloud cover obscures the top half the bottom half continues to pump out power at maximum efficiency. This means during the dark August rains in Lagos your battery bank will still receive a steady trickle of charge significantly outperforming older traditional panels. It is a highly premium and intelligent investment for off grid living.

3 days agoI upgraded my 5KVA system with 8 units of Bluesun Bifacial panels. The difference is staggering. Even by 6 PM when the sun is setting the ambient light hitting the back of the panels is still generating 200 watts of power.

3 days agoThe build quality of Bluesun panels is very robust. The double glass design makes them heavier than normal panels so your installer must use heavy duty aluminum mounting rails so they do not fly off during heavy Lagos windstorms.

3 days agoHalf cell technology is mandatory for Lagos. The amount of dust and bird droppings we get here constantly creates micro shadows on panels. Half cell panels bypass these small blockages and keep the electricity flowing.
