I am a field engineer and I need a laptop that can survive being tossed around in a pickup truck. I want to buy a dell latitude e6440 refurbished because of its legendary Tri metal chassis. Where can I buy a professionally refurbished unit in Lagos that comes with at least a 3 month warranty on the battery and motherboard?

Most reputable vendors in Computer Village will confidently offer a 1 month full warranty and a 3 month motherboard warranty if they are selling a genuine Grade A tokunbo unit. To protect yourself you must run physical diagnostics before paying. Press F12 repeatedly during startup and select "Diagnostics". This built in Dell tool will automatically test the hard drive memory processor and battery. It will explicitly tell you if the battery health is "Excellent" or "Needs Replacement". If the diagnostic tool shows any red errors demand another unit. Also verify that the charger is a genuine 65W or 90W Dell adapter; the laptop will display a warning on startup if a fake charger is plugged in.

3 days agoI use the E6440 for my civil engineering site work. It is covered in dust and cement and has fallen off scaffolding twice. It has a few dents but it still works perfectly. It is a tank.

3 days agoDo not buy it if you have to carry it on a long trek every day. The Tri metal chassis makes it extremely heavy compared to modern plastic laptops. It will hurt your shoulders in a backpack.

3 days agoThe cooling system on this laptop is massive. Because it uses a full voltage M series processor it has a huge copper heatsink. It rarely overheats even if you run heavy AutoCAD software all day.
