Where is the best place to buy a genuine original dstv remote control that lasts?
Every replacement dstv remote control I buy from the street vendors stops working after two months. The buttons become stiff and the infrared signal gets very weak even with brand new batteries. Where can I buy an authentic Multichoice manufactured remote in Lagos that has the exact same soft button feel and durability as the one that came inside the original decoder box?

3 days agoThe frustration of buying counterfeit replacement remotes is a universal Nigerian experience. The counterfeit market is massive because the profit margins on fake plastics are huge. To buy a genuine original dstv remote control that will last for years you must completely avoid roadside electronic vendors supermarkets and traffic hawkers. You must go directly to an official MultiChoice branch office or a highly verified major DSTV super dealer franchise. At the official office a genuine Explora or HD decoder remote will cost between 4,500 and 7,500 Naira depending on the model. While this is significantly more expensive than the 1,500 Naira fake remotes the genuine unit will save you money and extreme frustration in the long run.

3 days agoIf you must buy from a third party vendor there are foolproof ways to identify a genuine original dstv remote control before paying. First check the physical weight; genuine remotes have a heavy solid feel due to high quality internal circuit boards whereas fakes feel hollow and plasticky. Second examine the printed logos and text on the buttons. On a genuine remote the white text is laser etched deep into the rubber and will not scratch off. On a fake remote if you rub the buttons firmly with your fingernail the white paint will immediately peel or smudge off. Finally the buttons on a genuine remote are soft tactile and click silently. Fake remotes have stiff rigid buttons that require you to press incredibly hard to change a channel.

3 days agoI went through four fake remotes in six months. The buttons kept getting stuck inside the plastic casing. I finally drove to the DSTV office in Victoria Island and bought the original. The difference in quality is night and day.

3 days agoFake remotes also drain batteries incredibly fast. A pair of Duracell batteries in an original remote will last over a year. In a fake remote the batteries die in three weeks because the cheap circuit board constantly leaks power.

3 days agoLook closely at the infrared bulb at the top of the remote. On an original remote it is usually dark and flush with the plastic. On fakes it is a cheap clear LED bulb sticking out awkwardly.
