Is the used e5540 dell price reasonable compared to newer budget laptops today?

I have a budget of about 140,000 Naira to buy a laptop for my small business. I can either buy a brand new ultra budget Celeron laptop or a fairly used Dell Latitude E5540. Considering the current e5540 dell price in the market is it a smarter financial decision to buy the rugged 10 year old Core i5 machine or the brand new plastic Celeron machine with a warranty?

Comparing the used e5540 dell price (around 120,000 to 140,000 Naira) to a brand new budget laptop in the same price range is the ultimate debate in Nigerian tech hubs. The brand new laptop you get for 140,000 Naira will likely feature an Intel Celeron or Pentium Silver processor 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC flash storage (which is essentially a glorified memory card). It will look sleek and come with a warranty but its performance will be utterly agonizing. A brand new Celeron processor struggles heavily just to open Windows 10 updates and will freeze if you open more than three Chrome tabs. The build quality will be cheap flimsy plastic that cracks easily.

In stark contrast despite its age the Dell Latitude E5540 is vastly superior in both performance and durability. The 4th generation Intel Core i5 processor inside the E5540 has significantly more raw processing power and cache memory than a modern ultra budget Celeron chip. Furthermore the E5540 features a highly rugged business class chassis designed to last a decade and it allows for massive upgrades. If you buy the E5540 for 120,000 Naira and spend the remaining 20,000 Naira to install a 256GB SSD and boost the RAM to 8GB you will have a highly capable fast and indestructible workhorse for your small business. Do not be seduced by the shiny plastic of a new Celeron laptop; the used corporate Dell is the much smarter financial decision.

I made the mistake of buying a brand new 120k Celeron laptop for my shop. It took 5 minutes just to boot up and open my inventory software. I sold it at a loss and bought a used Dell E5540. The Dell is ten times faster.

The only advantage of the new laptop is the battery life. Celeron processors draw almost zero power so the battery lasts 8 hours. A used E5540 battery will only last about 2 hours. If battery is your absolute priority keep that in mind.

The keyboard on the Dell is business class meaning you can type long documents comfortably without the keys feeling mushy or fragile. The cheap new laptops have terrible keyboards that break after a few months.
