Is the hp 348 g7 a durable laptop for intense daily corporate office work?
My company IT department just issued me an hp 348 g7 laptop as my new official work machine. It looks very clean and professional featuring a silver finish. However my previous official laptop was a very rugged ThinkPad so I am worried about the physical durability of this HP model. Is the hp 348 g7 built with strong materials or is it mostly cheap plastic that will crack easily if carried in a heavy backpack? How well does the keyboard hold up to heavy daily typing and does it overheat when multitasking?

3 days agoTransitioning from a legendary ThinkPad to an hp 348 g7 will definitely require a mindset shift regarding physical durability. The ThinkPad is basically military grade equipment designed to survive drops and spills. The HP 348 G7 while a very capable mid tier corporate laptop does not share that indestructible DNA. The sleek silver chassis is actually made of high quality polycarbonate plastic painted to look like brushed aluminum. It looks incredibly professional in a boardroom but it will absolutely crack or dent if you drop it on a hard tile floor or throw a heavy bag on top of it. You must carry it in a padded laptop sleeve inside your backpack to protect the plastic corners from chipping.

3 days agoDespite the plastic chassis the internal build quality and thermal management of the hp 348 g7 are excellent for office work. The keyboard is specifically designed for long typing sessions; the keys have a decent travel depth and provide a very satisfying tactile bump preventing typing fatigue. Furthermore the keyboard deck is spill resistant offering minor protection against a spilled cup of coffee. Regarding overheating: As long as you are performing standard corporate tasks like running Microsoft Office attending Zoom meetings and browsing with multiple tabs the laptop runs completely cool and silent. It only gets noticeably warm and spins the fan loudly if you attempt heavy graphic rendering or play video games which this machine was never designed to do.

3 days agoI was issued this exact laptop by my HR department. It is incredibly light and portable. The battery easily lasts me 6 hours of continuous email and spreadsheet work during power outages. It is a fantastic work machine.

3 days agoThe silver paint on the palm rest will start to fade and turn black where your wrists rest after about a year of heavy typing. It is just cosmetic wear but it makes the laptop look older than it actually is.

3 days agoIt is nowhere near as strong as a ThinkPad. I accidentally bumped the screen against my office door frame and the plastic bezel cracked immediately. Treat it very gently and it will serve you well.
