Are the factory hp elitebook 8570p specs powerful enough to run modern AutoCAD smoothly?

As an architecture student I need a rugged laptop that can handle 2D and basic 3D drafting. The HP 8570p is built incredibly well with a solid aluminum body. Looking at the original hp elitebook 8570p specs it typically features a 3rd generation Core i5 or i7 and sometimes an AMD dedicated graphics card. Will these ten year old hp elitebook 8570p specs handle AutoCAD 2022 without lagging and crashing constantly? Can the processor keep up with rendering basic architectural models if I maximize the RAM to 16GB?

The hp elitebook 8570p is a legendary corporate workstation built with a thick aluminum chassis that feels indestructible. Analyzing the factory hp elitebook 8570p specs for modern architecture work requires managing expectations. If the unit features the 3rd generation Intel Core i7 (quad core) combined with the dedicated 1GB AMD Radeon HD 7570M graphics card it will absolutely run AutoCAD 2022. AutoCAD is primarily a single core CPU dependent application for 2D drafting and the powerful voltage of the older i7 processor can still push through 2D floor plans layout designs and basic 3D wireframes very smoothly without crashing provided you have upgraded the laptop to 16GB of RAM and a fast Solid State Drive (SSD).

However where the ten year old hp elitebook 8570p specs will completely fail is in modern photorealistic 3D rendering. If you attempt to export a complex 3D architectural model using modern rendering engines like Lumion V-Ray or Twinmotion the 1GB AMD graphics card is hopelessly obsolete. Modern rendering software requires massive amounts of VRAM (Video RAM) and modern CUDA cores which this laptop simply lacks. The software will either refuse to open entirely or will crash during the rendering process giving you an "Out of Memory" error. It is a fantastic rugged budget laptop for your initial years of architecture school focusing on 2D drafting but it cannot serve as your final 3D rendering workstation.

I survived my first three years of architecture school with the 8570p. Upgrading to 16GB of RAM is non negotiable. AutoCAD will eat 8GB for breakfast. It handles 2D floor plans perfectly well.

Do not even try to run Revit on it. I tried opening a complex 3D building model in Revit and the laptop froze so badly I had to pull the battery out to restart it. The graphics card is just too old.

The build quality is incredible. You can literally drop it on the studio floor and it will just dent the tiles. But it is very heavy to carry around campus all day. Great machine for strict 2D work.
