Do the hp elitebook folio 9480m specs support upgrading to a massive 16GB of RAM?
I currently own this beautiful ultrabook with 8GB of RAM. However because I usually have about 30 Chrome tabs open while typing research papers my memory usage is constantly maxed out making the laptop slow down. I checked the hp elitebook folio 9480m specs online but I am confused about its maximum memory capacity. Does the motherboard actually support a 16GB RAM upgrade? More importantly does it have two physical RAM slots inside or is one of the RAM modules permanently soldered to the motherboard preventing a dual channel upgrade?

3 days agoYour confusion regarding the hp elitebook folio 9480m specs and memory upgrades is entirely valid because many modern ultrabooks have completely abandoned upgradeability. The massive advantage of the Folio 9480m over modern thin laptops is that HP did NOT solder the RAM to the motherboard. To answer your question directly: Yes the motherboard absolutely supports a maximum memory capacity of 16GB. More importantly it features two physical SO-DIMM RAM slots hidden underneath the bottom cover. This allows you to run two identical 8GB sticks of RAM in dual channel mode which significantly boosts the data transfer rate and overall system performance compared to running a single 16GB stick.

3 days agoExecuting the upgrade based on the hp elitebook folio 9480m specs is incredibly straightforward and does not require a technician. The laptop uses DDR3L memory (the L is crucial as it stands for Low Voltage 1.35V). Ensure you do not buy standard 1.5V DDR3 memory or the laptop will refuse to boot. You simply slide the locking mechanisms on the bottom of the laptop to pop off the entire bottom cover without unscrewing a single screw. You will see the two RAM slots immediately next to the hard drive. If you currently have one 8GB stick just buy another identical 8GB DDR3L stick from Computer Village (for about 12,000 Naira) slot it in and your heavy 30 tab Chrome browsing sessions will become flawlessly smooth instantly.

3 days agoI did exactly this upgrade last month. Upgrading to 16GB transformed the laptop. I can now run Adobe Illustrator and Chrome simultaneously without the fan sounding like it is about to explode.

3 days agoThe toolless bottom cover design on the 9480m is the best hardware design HP ever created. You literally just slide a latch and the whole bottom comes off. It makes upgrading RAM and blowing dust out of the fan a five second job.

3 days agoMake sure both RAM sticks run at the same speed (usually 1600MHz). If you pair a fast stick with a slow stick the motherboard will automatically downclock both to the slower speed reducing your dual channel performance benefits.
