Why is the fairly used hp folio price in nigeria so unstable compared to Dell laptops?
I have noticed that the fairly used hp folio price in nigeria fluctuates massively compared to equivalent Dell Latitude laptops which seem to have a fixed market price. Why do vendors charge such a massive premium for the HP Folio series? Is the internal hardware genuinely superior to Dell or are Nigerians simply paying an "Apple tax" for its silver MacBook like appearance?

3 days agoYour observation regarding the fairly used hp folio price in nigeria is incredibly accurate. The price instability is driven 100 percent by vanity and aesthetics not by superior internal hardware. The HP EliteBook Folio series (especially the 9470m and 9480m) was explicitly designed by HP to mimic the silver aluminum unibody aesthetic of the Apple MacBook Pro. In Nigeria where carrying a MacBook is a massive status symbol but the price of a real MacBook is prohibitive the HP Folio became the ultimate "fake it till you make it" machine. Vendors recognized this massive cosmetic demand and immediately slapped an "Apple tax" on it. You are literally paying an extra 20,000 to 30,000 Naira purely for the silver paint job.

3 days agoWhen you compare the internal hardware you realize how absurd the hp folio price in nigeria truly is. A Dell Latitude E7440 features the exact same 4th generation Intel processor the exact same RAM capacity and often a significantly better 1080p display compared to the Folio 9480m. Yet the Dell Latitude is consistently sold for 20,000 Naira less simply because it has a black carbon fiber chassis instead of silver aluminum. The HP Folio does not have superior motherboards or magical cooling systems; in fact the older Folios often have terrible washed out screens. If you care strictly about raw performance and value for money buy the equivalent Dell Latitude. If you are willing to pay a premium to look like a Silicon Valley executive in a coffee shop then pay the Folio markup.

3 days agoThis is the truest statement ever. I sell laptops in Computer Village. I buy the Dell E7440 and HP Folio 9480m for the exact same wholesale price from Dubai but I sell the HP Folio for 30k more because university students will fight each other to buy the silver laptop.

3 days agoThe Folio keyboard is actually much better than the Dell keyboard in my opinion. The keys are larger and the backlight looks more premium. That alone justifies a slight price bump for me.

3 days agoDo not be fooled by the aluminum body. The Folio is actually very fragile. If you drop it the metal bends permanently. The black plastic Dell Latitudes absorb shock much better and bounce off the floor.
