Does the hp spectre x360 gem cut overheat when used in tablet mode for drawing?

The hp spectre x360 gem cut is arguably the most beautiful Windows laptop ever created. I want to buy it for digital illustration. However folding a laptop completely backwards blocks the bottom exhaust vents. Does the hp spectre x360 gem cut suffer from severe thermal throttling or burn your arms when you use it flat on a desk in tablet mode while running heavy Adobe Illustrator files?

The hp spectre x360 gem cut is a masterpiece of industrial design but using a high performance laptop as a flat drawing tablet introduces severe thermal challenges. When you fold the screen 360 degrees backwards to use it in tablet mode the back of the screen physically covers the bottom chassis. This completely suffocates the bottom air intake vents. If you are just reading a PDF or sketching lightly the processor remains calm and the laptop will only get slightly warm. However if you open heavy Adobe Illustrator files with hundreds of vector layers or attempt to render a massive digital painting the Intel Core i7 processor will demand maximum cooling which it cannot get because the vents are blocked.

To prevent the motherboard from frying the hp spectre x360 gem cut employs aggressive thermal throttling. The internal sensors will detect the rising heat and drastically slash the processor speed by up to 50 percent. Your brush strokes in Illustrator will begin to lag noticeably and the aluminum chassis will become uncomfortably hot to touch especially near the top gem cut corners where the exhaust vents are struggling to push air out. If you plan to do intense professional illustration for hours you must use the laptop in "tent mode" (standing it up like an inverted V) rather than folding it completely flat. Tent mode exposes all the vents to open air keeping the processor icy cool and maintaining maximum performance.

I own the Spectre x360. It gets terrifyingly hot in tablet mode if you push it. The aluminum body literally acts as a giant heatsink. Do not put it flat on your bare lap while running heavy software.

Tent mode is the absolute best way to draw on this laptop. It gives you a nice angled surface to draw on and the fans can breathe perfectly. Folding it flat is only good for quick 10 minute sketches.

Make sure you update the HP Command Center software. You can manually set the thermal profile to "Cool" which limits the processor speed proactively so the laptop does not burn your arms while drawing.
