Does the huawei y5 actually have a decent camera for a budget phone?

I need a very cheap secondary Android phone for my dispatch rider to snap delivery confirmation pictures. The huawei y5 is heavily discounted in the market right now. For such a cheap device does the camera actually take clear legible photos of documents and waybills in bright daylight or are the pictures completely blurry and useless? Also does the battery last a full day of GPS tracking?

The huawei y5 (specifically the 2019 or Prime versions commonly found in the market) is an ultra budget entry level smartphone. When evaluating the camera for a dispatch rider you must understand its limitations. It features a very basic 8MP or 13MP single rear camera. In bright direct Nigerian sunlight the camera is actually surprisingly decent. It will capture clear legible photos of delivery waybills addresses and customer signatures without any issues. The text will be perfectly readable for your logistics records. However the moment the sun goes down or if the rider tries to snap a picture in a dark hallway the camera fails miserably. The sensor is tiny and cannot capture light resulting in extremely grainy blurry and useless photos in low light conditions.

Regarding the battery life for GPS tracking the huawei y5 will struggle if pushed aggressively. It typically houses a 3020mAh battery. GPS tracking apps (like Google Maps or dispatch software) are incredibly power hungry because they constantly ping satellites and keep the screen turned on at high brightness. If your rider leaves the screen on for navigation the battery will completely die in about 3.5 to 4 hours. You MUST provide your dispatch rider with a high quality power bank or a reliable motorcycle USB charger. Furthermore the phone only has 2GB of RAM. If the rider runs the GPS app WhatsApp and a music app simultaneously the phone will freeze and the GPS app might crash in the middle of a delivery route. It requires extreme patience to use.

I bought three Y5 phones for my logistics company. They are okay for snapping waybills but you have to tell the riders to hold the phone very still. There is no optical stabilization so if their hand shakes slightly the photo blurs immediately.

The battery is terrible for dispatch work. My riders were always complaining that the phone died before 2 PM. I had to buy 10000mAh Oraimo power banks for all of them so they could finish their daily routes.

It is a very rugged little phone though. One of my riders dropped it while riding at 40km/h and it just scratched the plastic back. The screen did not even crack. Great build quality for the cheap price.
