Does the old infinix hot 6 suffer from severe battery drain and charging port issues?

My younger brother is using an old infinix hot 6 and he constantly complains that the phone takes almost 6 hours to charge fully but dies in less than 3 hours of usage. Is this severe battery degradation a known hardware defect with the infinix hot 6 models or is his specific Micro USB charging port simply damaged and preventing the battery from receiving full voltage?

The severe battery issues your brother is experiencing with the infinix hot 6 are a textbook combination of extreme chemical battery degradation and physical hardware damage. The Infinix Hot 6 was released in 2018. Lithium ion batteries are chemically designed to last approximately 500 to 800 full charge cycles before their capacity severely degrades. After six years of daily charging that battery is chemically exhausted. It physically cannot hold the electrical charge anymore which is why it drains from 100 percent to zero in less than 3 hours. The internal resistance of the old battery is so high that the phone processor is starving for power.

However the agonizing 6 hour charging time is almost certainly a hardware defect specific to the Micro USB port on the old infinix hot 6. Over years of forcefully plugging and unplugging the charger the delicate metal pins inside the Micro USB port become bent dirty and oxidized. Furthermore the solder joints connecting the port to the motherboard often crack. Because the connection is failing the phone refuses to accept the full 2 Amps of power from the charger dropping down to a slow trickle charge of 0.5 Amps to prevent a fire hazard. To fix this your brother needs to visit a technician to completely replace the charging port sub board (which costs about 3,000 Naira) AND buy a brand new replacement battery (about 5,000 Naira). Do not just fix one; both components are dead.

My old Hot 6 did this exactly. The charging port became so loose that if you even breathed on the cable it would stop charging. Replacing the small charging board inside fixed the slow charging instantly.

Tell him to stop using the phone immediately if the back plastic is starting to bulge out. That means the old degraded battery is swelling up with toxic gas and could literally explode in his pocket.

Do not let a roadside technician just "solder" the broken pins inside the old port. Tell them to change the entire charging flex panel. It is cheap and guarantees a perfect fast charge connection.
