Does the itel a37 touch screen break easily and how much is a replacement?
My mother dropped her phone and the entire screen shattered completely. It is an Itel A37. Because these phones are extremely cheap plastic I am wondering if the glass used on the itel a37 touch screen is highly fragile by default. How much does a brand new replacement screen cost in the market? Is it even worth paying a technician to fix it or is the replacement screen cost almost the same as buying a brand new phone?

2 days agoThe screen fragility you experienced with the Itel A37 is extremely common across all ultra budget smartphones. To keep the retail price of the phone incredibly low manufacturers do not use chemically hardened scratch resistant glass like Corning Gorilla Glass found on expensive phones. The glass covering the itel a37 touch screen is basically standard thin soda lime glass. It has virtually no shock absorption properties. If it falls flat on a tiled floor or concrete without a thick protective rubber casing the kinetic impact shatters the glass instantly. You must absolutely install a thick tempered glass screen protector immediately after repairing it to provide a sacrificial layer of protection.

2 days agoRegarding the replacement cost: Fixing the itel a37 touch screen is actually highly affordable which is the main advantage of budget devices. In local tech markets like Computer Village or regional repair hubs a brand new complete screen assembly (which includes both the inner LCD and the outer touch glass) costs between 6,000 and 9,000 Naira plus an additional 2,000 Naira for the technicians workmanship. Because the total repair cost sits around 10,000 Naira it is absolutely worth repairing rather than spending 45,000 Naira to buy a brand new phone. However ensure the technician uses high quality T7000 black adhesive glue to bind the new screen to the plastic frame otherwise the screen will lift and pop out after a few weeks.

2 days agoMy mothers Itel screen broke just from sitting on it by mistake. The glass is very weak. But the technician in my street fixed it in 20 minutes for 8,500 Naira. It is very cheap to maintain.

2 days agoMake sure the technician tests the new screen before applying the glue. Some cheap replacement screens have "dead zones" where a specific line on the keyboard refuses to type. Tell him to open the messages app and press every single letter to test the touch sensitivity.

2 days agoDo not buy just the outer glass. Even if only the glass is broken replacing just the glass is messy and often damages the LCD underneath. Pay the extra 2k and buy the complete LCD and Touch assembly it is much more reliable.
